Designed by brothers Julián and José María Otamendi, the emblematic Torre de Madrid – for some years considered the tallest concrete skyscraper in the world – hosts now in nine of its thirty-four floors the new Barceló Group hotel, the Barceló Torre Madrid Hotel. This new funky retro hotel boasts incredible vibes, quite matching the head designer’s soul!

We couldn’t be talking about anyone but the brilliant Jaime Hayon! His work is infused with a recognisable characteristic humour that meets superior workmanship and artistic integrity. Adding an endless list of successful collaborations, the choice was less than easy.
As a sort of living canvas of Hayon‘s art, each corner, wall and ceiling of this hospitality project expose the designer’s personality and welcome visitors to set foot in his creative world.
From sofas upholstered in leather, twill and velvet to the brass touches and lighting pieces, all décor elements took inspiration from mid-century vibes.
Taken as a whole, the hotel is grand, ravishing and classy. At the same time, you don’t feel any kind of pretentiousness coming from the designer, but rather humour and grace.
The building’s simple structure, like pastel painted walls, white marble floors and a large range of windows, allowing an abundance of natural light to get in – enables the colourful décor elements and furnishings to speak for themselves.

The hotel’s bar with a golden brass and white marble counter and what could probably be “tallest drinks cabinet in the city”, is definitely the hottest spot there.
Other elements such as the brass “drawings” in the windows featuring various cultural emblems and the art on the walls which Jaime Hayon commissioned from multimedia artists Nienke Klunder and Wiglius de Bie are all a direct reference to Spain’s diverse and rich cultural heritage.
