Developed by Olson Kundig’s architect Kirsten Ring Murray, the restaurant – situated in North Ballard – took over a notable corner of a new mixed-use building with large windows which captures natural daylight from three sides, enhancing the existing contrast between its industrial elements and the natural wooden ones.
As soon as you set foot in the restaurant, the wooden bars on the ceiling will catch your attention immediately. Near the lobby, you’ll find a reclaimed wood host station topped by a deep metallic shade of Richlite, a paper composite board, with wooden shelves, decorated only with some American desert inspiration.
A sideboard crafted from a long slab of live-edge elm, decorated with an American desert inspired element, was the chosen element to divide the dining area from the bar area, where beverage director Ruven Munoz dispenses cocktails and sage wine advice. It links the light tones of the wooden bars on the ceiling and complements the darker finishes of the bar counter and the dining furniture.

With DelightFULL‘s pendant lamp Ike, you’ll be able to recreate the same result as Copine‘s bar lamps. You can improve the effect even more by customising it with some copper coated brass and its cable measure, as well. The warm colour of the metallic copper will make you feel the desert’s atmosphere.
All patrons can feel some privacy provided by the strategically positioned white shaded art walls which probably cover some of the building’s mechanical systems, too. Meanwhile, the noise-abatement ceiling panels, presented in light grey along with the exposed piping, provide both visual and acoustic comfort.

For larger parties, the experience culminates at the chef’s table. The private space host up to ten guests and is a unique opportunity for them to observe the busy yet immaculate kitchen. Apart from the main dining space, the open design provides an intimate view into the process, tradition and attention to detail that characterises McCrain’s cuisine, which enhances the ambience of the guest experience.
Due to the large windows present in the kitchen, everyone from the outside can also witness the industrial restaurant cooking mastery.
