Aretha Louise Franklin had American blood in her veins; she was a singer and a pianist. She began her career while she was just a child, singing gospel at New Bethel Baptist Church, in Detroit Michigan! In the early 60’s, when she had only 18 years old, she started her secular career recording for Columbia Records whithout having much success, but he would come!
It was only after singing to Atlantic Records in 1967 that she achieved commercial acclaim and success with songs like “Respect”, “Chain of Fools”, ” (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”.
By the end of the 60’s she was already known as “The Queen of Soul“. Albums such as ” I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You” (1967), “Lady Soul” (1968), “Young, Gifted and Black” (1972) and “Amazing Grace” (1972) were acclaimed and led her to maximum success!
Aretha has received international acclaim for singing the Opera “Nessum Dorma” at the Grammy Awards replacing Luciano Pavarotti. She won 18 Grammy Awards, including the first 8 awards given for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance from 1968 to 1975 and she is one of the bestselling musical artists of all time, having sold more than 75 million records around the world.
In 1987 she received the honor to become part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, that way she was the first female performer to be inducted. Also listed in Two All Time Lists on Rolling Stone magazine, which includes The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
