Owned by the same Italian family since its opening day in 1927, this Formica wonder, which feels frozen in time around the early Sixties, is a must if you’re searching for a glimpse of the good old days. Customers may recognize the tearoom’s interior as the café has been used as a filming location for Heinz adverts and in the 2009 film The Boat That Rocked. The chatty and pleasant staff certainly take pride in what they do, which includes traditional café classics such as big mugs of tea and delicious fry-ups.

Established in 1946 in Pimlico, The Regency is a hotspot for those looking for a taste of British culinary history: a full English and various traditional homemade dishes are available daily. The original décor includes gingham curtains and blackboards featuring the café’s specials, such as shepherd’s pie on Tuesdays. Pictures hanging on the walls show the café throughout the decades, and scenes from 2004’s film Layer Cake which The Regency appeared in.
