GET VINTAGE WITH: Scandinavian Design Mingles With Industrial Style
An iconic name for an iconic way of setting the world in motion. Duct Tape Workshop is located in Ponsonby Central and its unique way of living. A mixing of tastes, this vintage shop brings with it a breath of fresh air into the world – “Duct Tape Workshop seemed like a relevant and clever choice, as it worked in with the kiwi ‘fix-it’ mentality. We then based the design around electronic circuits, turn of the century watch workshops and old NY lofts. Our fascination with circuits, pattern and colour aided in the direction of the design, which was further defined with our material palette consisting of steel, Georgian wire glass, duck egg blue paint and neon yellow. The body of the store was to be industrial, with elements of technology piercing throughout – ultimately allowing the products and services to stand out within the carefully curated space.”
The inspiration behind this incredible industrial interior design comes from various sources. As one of the shop owners says “Our clients wanted a modern futuristic space, while the landlord insisted it was industrial and ‘old wordly’. We had to marry the two in a way that would speak of the digital age, so it made sense to reference this with pattern, colour and moments of technology.”
To make ends meet, the shop has a one of a kind way of bringing its way into the world. The industrial decor items are seen in various rooms such as the industrial style lighting present in most of them. The exposed pipes, the big windows and the way the simple colour palette of the walls fit in, seems like this was one stroke of luck.
The vintage decor items are also something to be talked about. Minimal, pretty and stylish – the way we want it to be – seem to be the perfect way of meeting the vintage style with the industrial taste.
